HOMEWORK

Homework is the result of a call and response between a mother (the caller) and her daughter (the responder). Each one's work offers the other’s a foothold. The mother's ceramics are the solid realities on which her daughter steadies her attention. The daughter's own pieces and curation specify a home for her mother’s output. Both are the products of a shared effort to extend lessons about craft and functionality beyond domestic orthodoxies. What began as a series of dishwasher safe plates, bowls, pitchers and vases becomes an illegible table setting. Homework cradles what’s delicate and nurtures things that are difficult to understand, laying the grounds for a tender form of relating.
